LYNYRD SKYNYRD

Lynyrd Skynyrd is a Southern rock band that formed in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1964. The band’s original members were Ronnie Van Zant (vocals), Gary Rossington (guitar), Allen Collins (guitar), Larry Junstrom (bass), Bob Burns (drums), and Billy Powell (keyboards). Over the years, the band’s lineup changed several times due to tragic events such as the 1977 plane crash that killed Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines, backup singer Cassie Gaines, and assistant road manager Dean Kilpatrick.

Despite the tragedies that befell the band, Lynyrd Skynyrd’s music has endured and influenced generations of musicians. Their hits include “Sweet Home Alabama,” “Free Bird,” “Gimme Three Steps,” “Simple Man,” and “Tuesday’s Gone.” The band’s music is known for its bluesy guitar riffs, gritty vocals, and themes of southern life, freedom, and rebellion.

Lynyrd Skynyrd was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006. Today, the band continues to perform with surviving members Gary Rossington, Johnny Van Zant (Ronnie Van Zant’s younger brother), and Rickey Medlocke, as well as other musicians.
